S*M*U*T Modellers Group

Canberra 2012

In what is becoming a yearly event for me, I headed off south to the Canberra Exhibition in Kaleen for their annual model railway exhibition and to catch up with fellow group members Macca and Dale.
We did not arrive until around 13.00, having taken the opportunity to follow the closed Captains Flat branch line from Bungendore. Have been planning to do this for around 30 years and it was well worth the effort.
The exhibition, put on by the Canberra Model Railway Club, had some good and bad points. I was pleasantly surprised to find it much expanded compared to our first visit last year. Not an easy place to navigate, with layouts and stalls in a rabbit warren maze of halls and rooms - but certainly well worth it for the vastly larger selection of things to see.
The biggest disappointment, and we are talking big, was the terrible catering for the event. This was not a one off, as it was little better last year. Honestly, if you are are planning to go in 2013, do yourself a favour and eat something before going - especially if you plan to go at lunch, when they seem to always be out of stock.
However, bad catering and two hungry kids did not stand in the way of a great lot of layouts at trade stands.
A selection of photos are below.
